Guilt…It’s Not the Way to Live

Guilt is holding on to something you feel that you should be remorseful for. I would like to stress that it is something you think you should be remorseful for. We bring guilt upon ourselves. Parents and friends sometimes try and make us feel guilty, but at the end of the day, we are the ones that accept the guilt.

Here is a great quote by Anthony Hopkins:

Guilt is the greatest thief of life.

The quote above is so true. When we feel guilty, it weighs on our mind like a ton of bricks. It takes precious time away and in many cases holds us back from doing the things we either should or would like to do. Think about this: No amount of guilt is going to change the past, and worrying will not change the future. Even if you made a bad decision feeling guilty is not going to get you anywhere. Let go of it. Make amends if you can, learn from your mistake and move on.

As I mentioned above, sometimes people try and make us feel guilty. It is ok to see someone else’s side and even change your point of view, but don’t hold on to those terrible guilty feelings. You need to feel confident in your decisions and the way you live your life. If you make a mistake and you will make many of them, grow and learn from those mistakes. If you fall down, or if you fail at something, get back up, brush yourself off and start again with a positive attitude and a smile on your face. Don’t keep beating yourself up. We learn and grow from our mistakes.

The most valuable thing you can make is a mistake.

You can’t learn anything from being perfect

Change your internal dialogue:

I am a failure but I will do better next time

It is all my fault but I made a mistake and I will make

things better

I am a bad mom instead I try my best

I suck at my job instead I will do better at my job

I will never get thin instead I am going to start eating better

I feel so stupid but I will not be ashamed to ask for help

I can’t stick to anything but I will keep trying

Taking my child to daycare

makes me a bad Mom instead I am working to support my family

and set a good example for my child

Stop feeling guilty. Learn from your mistakes. Pick yourself up if you fall down and keep trying. You cannot live your best life, when you are laden with guilt. Live carefree like a child, treat people like you want to be treated and make amends for your mistakes. It’s all in your attitude.
